Area Cyclists Talk Bikes

People interested in bicycling had the chance Thursday to talk about all things to do with bikes.
And the people they were speaking with came from local, county and state government agencies with an interest in cycling.

It all happened at the bike open house held by Willmar Bikes Alliance at Willmar auditorium where groups such as the Willmar Police Department, Kandiyohi County and Bicycle Alliance of Minnesota set up booths.

At the county booth, there was a map of Kandiyohi County on which people were encouraged to post comments and suggestions.
“No shoulder on Cty 8 between Kandiyohi & Spicer,” was one comment on the map.
“Marked Bicycle lanes on CSAH 25,” was another suggestion.
Anyone who would like to offer their opinions on a bicycle and pedestrian plan the county is developing can contribute by doing a survey online at surveymonkey.com/r/Kandiyohitrails.
There was also information at Willmar Lakes Area Convention and Visitors Bureau about upcoming rides. The 6.5-mile Glacial Lakes High School Loop Ride will begin at 5 p.m. May 11 at the trail head near the Civic Center.
The 3.2-mile Robbins Island Loop Ride will be at 5 p.m. Jun 8 at Shelter 1. The rides are free and no registration is required. For weather information, visit the Willmar Bike Facebook.
The fourth annual Mayors Bike Ride from Willmar to Spicer and New London will begin at 5 p.m. May 20 in each community. The ride and picnic at Robbins Island will be free, but registration is required at 320-235-3552 or via email at info@willmarlakesarea.com. More information is available at willmarlakesarea.com.
